This was what I was reading:
Ok, to be honest, biomes really aren't that important, and they are actually quite a hassle to learn about but we'll just go over a couple of the major biomes.
Lets start with the DESERT!
as you all know…..its hot in the desert, but did you know that it gets really cold at night too? Anyways, deserts cover about 30% of the world's land and they are mostly on the interior of the continents…There are lots of different types of deserts like tropical deserts, temperate deserts, cold deserts, but the point is, they are just deserts…deserts take a long time to recover because its got a slow reproduction rate, so any disturbance might take tens of years to recuperate.
next up are the GRASSLANDS!
there are 3 distinct flavors for this biome, hot, medium, and cold….the hot grasslands are called tropical grasslands also known as savannas, the medium ones are called temperate grasslands, and the cold ones are cold polar grasslands or the arctic tundra…the tundra is the, i think, most important one, so we'll just cover that one. its got a permafrost which means that its always got a frozen layer of soil. you wouldn't wanna live in the tundra because of the cold and swarms of mosquitos…
last but not least are the FORESTS!
just like grasslands, there are three flavors, hot, medium, and cold. tropical rain forests, as you might guess is the hot one and it has a lot of broadleaf evergreen plants to get the sunlight…they've got tall trees and shallow roots, and most of the nutrients are with the organisms themselves, and not in the soil…
all you need to know about the rest is that the medium forests are called temperate deciduous forests and the cold one is called evergreen coniferous forests. and if you know your english, you should know roughly what each forest has.
AND THERE YOU HAVE IT a quick overview of the biomes. ;)
